User Biography

Hey guys,

My name is Ben "TheWhiz" Sholes.  I've been playing video games all my life and got into the competitive scene around CAL season 4 for CS:S when I was in college.  Since then I've been fascinated with the competitive scene and haven't looked back.  After I graduated college, I decided it was probably not a practical idea to seriously pursue competitive gaming.  So, I decided to put my business degree to good work and use my talents on the organizational side of things.

I started out at a little known org called Cognition Gaming who had around 4 teams.  I then eventually made it to Blight Gaming through multiple org "absorptions".  Through the relationships I made on Blight, I moved over to where I am today at Check-Six in the summer of 2010.

I enjoy playing most FPS, racing, and RTS games on PC, but most of my knowledge and experience is grounded in CS:S.  I manage our CS:S team as well as perform logistics duties for them and the rest of the teams here. I am also a CS:S writer for ESEANews.

I feel like I'm an approachable guy, so feel free to hit me up here, on IRC, or on steam.
